Introduction
If you're running Windows 8 on a laptop/desktop with any type of 'touch' input -even a multi touch Mousepad- Windows 8 will 'optimize' your display settings for a 'touch screen'.
Several annoying things happen such as: Spiceworks and similar websites dropdown menu on the navbar won't work in Chrome anymore
The drop down lists are much bigger and take up more room than they should.
Title bars are really big and thick, as if your display size is set to 'medium' instead of 'normal'
I'm sure there are other things that I just haven't noticed yet that are meant to be 'touch optimized' but are really annoying if you're on a normal laptop
Steps (3 total)
Export the existing settings from HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics, keep it somewhere safe in case you don't like the changes that occur.
(in case you didn't and you need a fresh copy, see the attachment)
This is a reg file created specifically with the sizes set to be as thin as small with smallest possible margins and padding. This is not meant for tablets since it wont give you a lot of room to 'touch' with.
Import the normalview.reg file, log out and in and you should have as much screen room as possible with minimal borders and padding! :)
