2

Locate backup

Verify that you have a backup of the database and restore a safe location
3

Start RMT

Go to the EMC toolbox and open the Database Recovery Management Tool
4

Create RSG

Follow the prompts and create a Recovery Storage Group
5

Select database

Select the database the user’s account is on and go with the defaults to finish the RSG creation
6

Verify RSG database

Verify that the RSG was created using the following command in the Exchange Management Shell: Get-MailboxDatabase
7

Copy restored database

Copy the restored Database and Catalog Data to the RSG folder (usually under the original database file.) Do not unmount or change the original database file!
8

Restore and Mount

After the restore or copy of these files, mount the database in the RSG
9

Database mount failure

If the mount of the database that you want to restore fails, go to the Exchange Management Shell and change to the directory of your newly restored database, then run the following command: eseutil /mh. If it says your database has a Dirty Shutdown, run the following command: eseutil /p. Once that is done, run eseutil /mh again, then if you have a clean shutdown, you should be able to mount the database
10

Create Merge

Click merge or copy mailbox contents, then click gather merge information, then click perform pre-merge tasks
11

Merge files and check

Select the mailbox to copy or merge, then click save. The files should be restored, you can monitor this live from OWA
12

Clean Up

Don’t forget to dismount the database, remove the storage recovery group, and delete the copied files

Conclusion

Simple process, should run quickly with no downtime on any of your email databases.
